Nvidia all the way :) Tjoh311 09-25-2004, 05:28 AM Not surprising. Its ATI's strategy to keep an eye on Nvidia, then follow suit. I've never been real impressed with their products anyway. bwkaz 09-25-2004, 10:04 AM Yawn. The drivers still aren't open source. Therefore, I'm not interested. :p Icarus 09-25-2004, 10:16 AM Originally posted by bwkaz Yawn. The drivers still aren't open source. Therefore, I'm not interested. :p I don't know why these kind of comments always make me laugh... :) As long as ATI starts supporting the power management on the mobile chips, I'll be happy :) bwkaz 09-25-2004, 10:36 AM Most of my yawning is due to the fact that I don't own ATI hardware. :D If I did, I'm sure I'd be more interested. JohnT 09-25-2004, 11:01 AM My one and only was with MDK 6.0 or 7.0.. after that fiasco .....nothing but nvidia. I'd rather use something thats supported out of the gate. I was "fortunate" enough to get an ATI chip in my laptop, I even begged them to install a nvidia card but they wouldn't budge :D H2O-linux 09-25-2004, 12:41 PM Well, At first I was not a fan of ATI on linux however I have 2 systems w/ Slackware 10 running UT2004. The drivers work great and have full 3D acceleration. Xorg handles the drivers really well. Maybe people are looking for a GUI install style for linux? ATI Radeon how to (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=206141&perpage=15&pagenumber=1) Wireless! XiaoKJ 09-25-2004, 01:01 PM I hope its not going to be long -- I have a friend (v.M$ supportive) who's going to get a new com, and he loves ATI. I had never been successful to turn him to ATI, but he's ok with linux Maybe its a hoax to stop the petitioning... Icarus 09-25-2004, 01:33 PM Originally posted by H2O-linux Well, At first I was not a fan of ATI on linux however I have 2 systems w/ Slackware 10 running UT2004. I for one will probably continue to be nVidia fanboy due to their support of Linux. They were first graphics company to really start supporting Linux and I respect that. JohnT 09-25-2004, 03:29 PM Originally posted by H2O-linux Maybe people are looking for a GUI install style for linux? This people doesn't care about installation method......this people cares about rendering ability doing graphics. Nvidia has always been first and foremost in this dept.....with me. pilotgi 09-25-2004, 04:10 PM I thought the statement about their support for linux drivers equaling the market share, about 4 percent, very telling. I suppose from a business point of view this makes sense, but nvidia's been supporting linux regardless. As long as ATI supports linux, I can let bygones be bygones. And I'll keep buying nvidia. janet loves bill 09-25-2004, 05:31 PM Originally posted by XiaoKJ Maybe its a hoax to stop the petitioning... my thought exactly............ keep the petitions going anyway............. and quit buying their crappy cards. SA_99 09-25-2004, 07:48 PM and quit buying their crappy cards. Their cards aren't that bad... it's just that their Linux drivers are. Back when it was ATI's 9800XT against nVidia's FX5950 Ultra-whatever, all the overclockers and "power users" who ran Windows wanted ATI's cards. Supposedly, ATI cards have better quality 2D rendering, and are pretty much even with comparable nVidia cards in frame rates during games (in Windows). Plus, nVidia had "cheated" on several benchmarks. And I definitely agree with Icarus on the power management. justlinux.com
