Its good to know that they are taking Linux a bit more seriously, but I don't care beyond that. Nvidia all the way :)

Not surprising. Its ATI's strategy to keep an eye on Nvidia, then follow suit. I've never been real impressed with their products anyway.

Yawn.

The drivers still aren't open source. Therefore, I'm not interested. :p

As long as ATI starts supporting the power management on the mobile chips, I'll be happy :)

Most of my yawning is due to the fact that I don't own ATI hardware. :D

If I did, I'm sure I'd be more interested.

My one and only was with MDK 6.0 or 7.0.. after that fiasco .....nothing but nvidia. I'd rather use something thats supported out of the gate.

If I did, I'm sure I'd be more interested. I was "fortunate" enough to get an ATI chip in my laptop, I even begged them to install a nvidia card but they wouldn't budge :D

Well,

At first I was not a fan of ATI on linux however I have 2 systems w/ Slackware 10 running UT2004. The drivers work great and have full 3D acceleration. Xorg handles the drivers really well. Maybe people are looking for a GUI install style for linux?

I hope its not going to be long -- I have a friend (v.M$ supportive) who's going to get a new com, and he loves ATI. I had never been successful to turn him to ATI, but he's ok with linux

Maybe its a hoax to stop the petitioning...

Having a vender support is always something to talk about. I for one will probably continue to be nVidia fanboy due to their support of Linux. They were first graphics company to really start supporting Linux and I respect that.

I thought the statement about their support for linux drivers equaling the market share, about 4 percent, very telling. I suppose from a business point of view this makes sense, but nvidia's been supporting linux regardless.

As long as ATI supports linux, I can let bygones be bygones.

And I'll keep buying nvidia.

Their cards aren't that bad... it's just that their Linux drivers are. Back when it was ATI's 9800XT against nVidia's FX5950 Ultra-whatever, all the overclockers and "power users" who ran Windows wanted ATI's cards. Supposedly, ATI cards have better quality 2D rendering, and are pretty much even with comparable nVidia cards in frame rates during games (in Windows). Plus, nVidia had "cheated" on several benchmarks.

And I definitely agree with Icarus on the power management.
