I like how in KDE, I can change to different workspaces by hitting [CTRL]-[Fn], such as ctrl-F2 for the 2nd workspace. However, KDE crashes like mad in MDK8.1 on my computer, so I was wondering if there was anyway to 'bind' keys to change to a different workspace in Gnome (using Sawfish WM). Any suggestions?

Also, I was wondering, is there a way to write a script to load a program in a certain workspace? I alwayz have to manually switch to, say, Workspace5 to run GAIM. Is it possible to write a script to exec gaim in a certain workspace? Once again, this is for the Sawfish WM under Gnome. I'd appreciate any help, thanx!

Ok, customising sawfish is fun.

If you open the gnome control center, and in the sawfish portion of it, go to shortcuts.

I'm assuming that you want this global, so leave it at global and click add.

The next thing you will want to do is to go to the command sequence option. Then you can set up a string of commands to be executed by the keystroke.
Ok, once that is chosen, you need to click add in that new box, and you will get the list of commands you can issue.
Then you will want to choose Run Shell Command... In this example you want gaim to be run, so you would type gaim in the command box and click Ok.

Then you need to click add again, and go send to workspace, then put 5 into the workspace number as that is where you want to send it in your example, then click Ok.

Now comes the hard part. ;)
Click Grab and then type the key/s that you want to use to invoke Gaim going to Workspace 5.
Then you simply click Ok and if your GCC is set up with the try button, click Try. If not click Ok, and then try it out. If it works out the way you want it great! If not, well do some tweaking on it, and let me know.
I only use one workspace, so I haven't tried something like this before. But it should work. :D
