I upgraded xf86 to 4.0.2 from 3.3.5, and when I startx into gnome or kde, everything is just screwed up. The fonts start out looking like barcodes, and I have to wait a while for it to become clear... like it is rendering or something. But it's not just that, everything seems to be taking a long time to render, but when I start using any gui, it gets messed up again. Gnome and KDE was fine until I upgraded X to 4.0.2. I thought it was the fonts at first, but then I realized that the interface was screwed up as well. I know the XF86Config file is correct, anyone have any ideas? It is so bad, that I can't even accurately explain it. I was thinking maybe I need to upgrade gnome and kde... but something must be wrong.

I'll warn you ahead of time...I'm really new but fresh off the field of battle vs. 4.0.2. After I upgraded my old version of X to 4.0.2, nothing would come up at all. I first tried to re-config using xf86config but that didn't work. I then ended up just removing the config file completely and letting it generate one for me automatically. This let me get going somewhat and from there I read a lot and got a lot of great advice from these forums. Good luck, hope someone can give you better advice.
