When I plug in my SuSE 9.1 powered laptop at home, I can get 'net access fine. After updating my Centrino driver, I can also access the 'net wirelessly from the kitchen.
When I take the laptop to work and plug it in, nothing, zip, nada. There is no recognition at all of my network at work...one linux friendly tech in our IT department suggested shutting off any "auto-enabling" of DHCP but I guess I don't follow...
Thoughts?

maybe they use static IPs at work.
ask for an IP to use and turn off dynamic addressing (dhcp)

Yeah, this is probably right.
Do you know your IT department's setup? I've seen some places where they use DHCP, but it's bound to the MAC address, essentially turning the address into a static one, but without having to configure the client machine. That's one possibility, at least.
We probably need to know a little more about your home and your workplace's setup before we could tell you anything else.

I don't no much more at this point about the specific setup.
I have looked up my Network Connection details in Windows XP when I log in to the work network per usual...perhaps I can use the IP info from that setup and turn off DHCP and see what happens...
I'll try to learn more tomorrow and see what more I can provide. Thanks...
