I finally decided to get RH 7.2 installed. Its, erm... different. But anyway, I'm trying to configure wine (I know 7.2 comes w/wine, but I dont want that) and when I run the configure script, I get:

checking whether make sets ${MAKE}... yes
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
configure: error: no accectable cc found in $PATH

...well, this means that I dont have a cc installed, right? I always thought these things get installed by default (I didnt tell it not to...). What do I need to install (names?) to be able to do this?

Look, forget it. I just did a bit of surfing around, getting to know RH7.2, and I've decided I've had enough... and I'm going back to 7.1

BLOODY DEPENDANCIES! Argh

I dont know what they did, but everything is fubar. I cant really explain (apart from things not being there) it just doesnt feel right. So, back to 7.1 I go where I KNOW everything is there and it works.

Upgrading your kernel from source is painless (if kernel itself is, not eg. 2.4.15). RH 7.1 with 2.4.17 kernel here :)

Well, I dont know about upgrading the kernel... I'm too lazy

...but I am now back in 7.1 (posting to you courtesy of...) and everything worked straight off the bat. No hassles. I've got this thing configured and the way I want it faster than I found out 7.2 is CRAP. Which is fast, it didnt take me all that long to figure that out. Everyone else has been vitching about 7.2 - I should have listened...

Anyway, I'll look into upgrading the kernel, and because I'm soooooo lazy... whats good about it? Is it worth it?
