Hi folks,

On shopping SATA hard drives, how to find out whether the SATA hard driver supports ncq (native command queuing)

e.g Western Digit and Seagate
The inforatmation available on shops are only capactity, rotation speed, interface, access time, etc.

Equally on shopping motherboards how to find out whether their controller/SATA ports support ncq

TIA

Hi JohnT,

Tks for your link.

ncq SATA/SATA2 HD is not on market yet according to the information in the article.

Recently I'm prepared to upgrade a AMD K-6 box to AMD 64 2800+ and shopping around for motherboard. SATA HD both of 7,200 and 10,000 rpm are already on market. According to my search a ncq SATA, 7200 rpm, outperforms a SATA of 10000 rpm. My further search told me that ncq SATA needs a controller supporting ncq.

I can hold the purchase of SATA drive, using old ATA-133 HD on this upgrade temporarily. However I must get a right SATA motherboard which can support ncq. I could not find it on the market.

I don't expect the timing of this upgrade being too short. Therefore I started posting searching for relevant information.

Ok this site talks of the Intel chipset 925 supporting NCQ
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1614053,00.asp

And these two Asus MB's (P5AD2 Deluxe,P5AD2Supreme) seem to be what your looking for , of course I would contact Asus directly and inquire.

Asus's serves up their pages in several languages...look up and to the right for region.
