Greetings

I've (somehow ;)) set-up my mandrake box to act as a gateway for the XP box. Although I chickened out and used the mandrake wizard (drakGw) to handle all the configuration settings. So it's basically like this, linux box has static ip of 192.168.1.1 and connects to the net via PPP (dial-up modem) and also acts as dhcp server to other clients.

Herein lies the problem. The connection sharing works fine until the linux box is shut-down. On re-start when i dial up (KPPP), I get connected but no traffic seems to be going in or out! If I run through the drakGw process again (where it restarts servers and configure scripts) then connect up to the net, everthing works.

So, why are the settings changing on sutdown/startup?

I appreciate this is a bit vague and I haven't posted any files yet as I'm not sure where to begin looking, that's why I'm here!

(BTW, Shorewall is used by the wizard )

Thanks

OK..OK..Here's what I've tried so far...

Right, AFAIK the problem does not lie with the firewall (shorewall) after I run the drakGw wizard I can disable/enable the firewall and be able to get traffic out but after the restart, nothing (again firewall enabled/disabled)!

I've also used a different set of shorewall config files rather than the ones created by the wizard, but with the same end result.

i.e. Run Wizard, swap config files, connect to net, Great, Traffic.
Then restart, connect to net, nothing, disconnect, run wizard, ...well, you get the idea.

I've compared the services running before and after running the wizard and they are exactly the same.

IPV4 Packet Forwarding in enabled (on startup).

I don't really know where else to look to find the root of this problem. Can someone suggest another area I can check?

Aha, Gettin' There.

If I use 'ifup ppp0' it returns an error 8, however my traffic is heading where it should.

So it would seem (to me) that the ppp0 interface is not starting on boot, does that sound right?.

If so how can I remedy this!
