this probblem had been bothering me for a while now and i still couldn't figured it why...
whenever i run a gtk based program outside of gnome, i can barely see the text on it, the fonts are ugly and very small...i found a solution but it creates more frustrations....
i found out that if i run gnome-font-properties then close it, then the fonts on gtk based apps reveal its true beauty....
is there a better solution to this than mine???
thanks!!!
i'm running slackware 10.0 with kernel 2.6.8.1

i'm running slackware 10.0 with kernel 2.6.8.1 Do you have to run gnome-font-properties every boot?

gnome-font-properties is an X application not a daemon so i canīt run it at boot time...
however, when im in X i just run it then close it and all my gtk based applications will have nice fonts.... but it`s anoying to have to run gnome-font-properties when i want to use gtk based apps.

U-m-m....m/b I should clarify my statement....Does your configuration last for the session "only" and is not maintained upon a reboot?

misunderstood u :)...
anyway...
it does maintain the font configuration if i boot straight to gnome (2.6)
as for the gnome-font-properties solution only work for each session only....
