Hi,

I'm going to take advantage of the upload rates of my DSL (not so hot but better than nothing) and try to serve some distros... which do you guys think would be the best to serve?

So far I've got Mandrake 8.0beta, Redhat 7.0, 7.1 beta, and Caldera eDesktop and eServer 2.4?

This is just an idea.. input?

Debian, Slackware, SuSE

I mean, if you're gonna do this, you might aswell get some of the better distros up there *hides from flames*

Agreed...Debian is extremely lightweight if you just host the install, and there are a lot of people who would be PISSED OFF if you didn't host Slack. I dunno about SuSE...I just know that MS should be scared sh!tless because of them.

Fantastic, what are the latest versions (and beta versions) of each of these distros?

Slackware is at 7.1 (I think) Debian?

Rumour has it that 7.2 is out, but I'm not sure. Debian has potato as its stable install, but Sid and Woody are both available as unstable versions. I believe Woody is the official unstable, and Sid is their bleeding-edge distro.

The whole Slack 7.2 release thing was a mistake, although it looks as if they are gearing up for a release soon. Slack-current has got X4.0.2 and a whole host of other goodies. BTW, whats your data rate? It might be more trouble than it's worth.

I'm wondering if any of you guys have the ISOs for these distros. If so, you think you'd be willing to upload it to the FTP server I've got running?

post here. :)

go to ftp.linux.tucows.com...they have a whole swack of distros that are downloadeable. I don't think SuSE is free for personal use...I think they let you have an evaluation version until you shell out 30 bucks for their software...not a bad deal when you consider what you're getting.

I'll take a look... the only reason why i'm asking the members here is because I'm guessing a one-to-one dedicated connection would be faster? (but i could be wrong)

In any case, I'll check it out. :)
