Try opening a terminal and issuing this command: xsetroot -cursor_name left-ptr (or right_ptr if you prefer). You can see all the available cursors by using this command: xft -fn cursor.

Hrmmmm...try logging in to Drake as root and doing that. Does a pointer appear anywhere? Might wanna post a section of your /etc/X11/XF86Config (if you're using 4.0.1, it'll be XF86Config-4) file...the part that deals with "Pointers". As for that command to view the pointers, just type it in the terminal when you're logged in as root.

OK...
The only time that i saw the mouse (cursor) was when i installed linux yesterday. at first i thought that my mouse was bad not compatable with linux but, then I tried another one and it is invivisible.
what is the easiest way to find the /etc/X11/XF86Config thingy. I will try to do the terminal thing when logged on as root. But at what point can I actually change something??

Thanks for the help
