I'm looking for a network monitoring program. I'd like to be able to view graphically which hosts on my network are up and running. I'd also like to be notified either by email or pager when a critical host goes down. Sort of like a WhatsUpGold replacement for linux.
Any suggestions?

The big one that I know of is http://www.nagios.org/ It does port monitoring and will do far more then it sounds like you need. it's also free.
I use bigbrother at work but I think the server needs to be on solaris but it's free to if your non profit. If you are making money with the machines you monitor then it's $500 for server and $100 per client.
Both do email notify.

Check ntop and mtrg. We use both on our networks. They can give you a lot of detail on what is going on.

I say go for Nagios/Netsaint. It takes a little effort to get setup but is a great tool.

Does anybody know what happened to nagios? I went to their site at http://www.nagios.org and it's not accessible.
