Just somthing i recently noticed, maybe many have already found this out but anyway about those drives...
I hav a lite on dvd(lots of stuff)burner usb 2.0. Tonight i decide i'd take it apart with a thought, i bet its just an ide drive with a usb adapter, sure enough. This then leads me to wonder are all usb hard drives and optical drives, that are about the same size (as a 5 1/2 drive bay) just ide drives in desgise. If so then hmmm, sounds like a rip off if you don't watch out.

This should probably be in /dev/random but its about hardware...

Also a side note, are there any bios s that allow to boot from usb devices, or any upgrades for soyo boards, i'm going to check myself, but i just thought i ask wile i'm here.

I'm pretty sure most USB drives are just IDE drives with adapters. You can also make your own if you buy an IDE drive and an external USB-capable enclosure. It's probably much cheaper that way, and you get more flexibility.

Most modern BIOSes support booting from USB devices, provided that the USB device also supports it.

but the power cords aren't that easy to do. Nevertheless, its very cheap to DIY

But isin't ide faster than usb, so you're not really getting screwed over. you're just getting a cheaper hard-drive / whatever, since they only need to create the inclosure, not an entirely new hard-drive.
