Hi All,

I like to set-up an intranet server for around 100 users, which contain of company policy, announcement, news and discussion forum.
What is the hardware minimum requirement to run such server? In a normal P4 CPU with 1 GB RAM is enough? Or I need a Server?

Thanks in advance,

For 100 users, running email, some sort of groupware, a forum, I believe the P4 would be able to do server duty. Servers work more off their hard drives than a regular desktop, so it is really a question of how stable is the hard drive, is there a backup drive in case the original fails, and the speed of the hard drive. Also, RAID is better for a server since you have 2 or more drives working together to speed things up.
And it really is more a question of how much the server will actually be used by those 100 people. Will they be using it occasionally during the work day or will all 100 people use the server constantly?
So I guess it boils down to a question of cost versus reliability. Do you trust that stuff on the P4 versus buying a new machine that is built with server duty in mind and the comfiguration is geared toward protecting data.
