I have a usb keyboard and I would like to use it with my picurebook because I got an external display working with it. The problem is that when I plug it into the usb port it doesn't work at all. I am running gentoo, and I am wondering if I need to emerge something to get it working.
Also I would like to be able to use the two usb ports on either side of the keyboard for my mouse and camera if at all possible I would love the info on how to do that too.
Thanks.

try rebooting
In my BIOS (when installing RH 7.3 long ago) I had to disable PNP - mabie there is a similar issue here
do you have the hotplug daemon running?

Ok I emerged usbd and then rebooted with no effect, I also tried running usbd manually and I get this
/proc/bus/usb/devices there is no such directory
so now I have no idea what do do. I also noticed when I boot my comp is says something about not being able to find certain usb modules, but I used genkernel when I installed it so I don't know what to do.
thanks

Ok I got my usb mouse working under x, but I am having a hard to getting the keyboard to work and I could really use it as a hub too. It shows power going to it but it doesn't register the key strokes. I would really like to be able to use it.
So I know usb is working, now I just need to figure out how to get the computer to record the keystrokes.
thanks

ok I got it working I just had to boot with the keyboard in, which kinda sucks but I am mostly going to leave it at home, oh well.
