Hi folks,
I'm prepared to get a low end printer for printing documets only at home. The use cycle may be once a week printing 2-3 pages, A-4. My target printer is
HP Deskjet 3550
Kindly advise can this printer work on Debian, Fedora Core 2 and FreeBSD without much difficulty on setup, searching driver on Internet.
If HP Deskjet 3550 is not reliable my next choice will be HP Deskjet 3650. It can print photo which I don't need.
Please comment. TIA.

I have had nothing but good luck with Linux and HP printers of any type except I lost some functionality on one of my multi purpose scanner/copier/printers. Go here (http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/) for information on drivers.

Most HP printers work great in Linux (they contributed the drivers)
You might want to do a quick search on google.com/linux for the printer models to see if there are any known issues/tweaks for them, but there should be CUPS drivers available (I have a HP DJ430 and it works great, but it's old and crappy ;))

Hi Icarus,
Tks for your advice.
I just tried to see whether folks on the forum having experience on those 2 HP printers.
I also have an old HP printer, HP Deskjet 690C. It works on most Linux distro without problem. Until today it broke down. The light, no paper/resume, continues flashing, pressing it without response. Therefore I have to buy a new one to replace it. Actually I use printer on very rare occasion.
Ah maybe I will start a new thread on 'paper/resume light flashing' to see whether any solution suggested.

Hi Sgood1971,
Tks for your URL
I found models HPDeskjet 3500/3600 on
http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/productssupported.php
I think HPDeskjet 3550 may use 3500 dirver and HPDeskjet 3650 may use 3600 driver respectivly.
