My roomate is the one that has a printer unfortunately he runs windows. I run suse 9.1 and im trying to configure it so that i can print to his printer. So i start the printing configuration wizard type thing and i select the printer type as SAMBA windows printer. I click next and i have to fill out some info. Workgroup which is MSHOME. Host name of the printer server. This is the ip address of the computer right? The next field is name of the remote queue. I have no clue what this means but next to the field is a button that says "lookup" I hit that but it does not do anything. The two fields below that are the user name and password. I put in the user name and password of my room mates computer. Can anyone verify that I am doing this correctly and what this remote queue is?

yes....

i have found that Workgroup means nothing, but the queue name has to match what your roommate put as the "sharename" of his printer.

And use the IP of his computer.

Also, the username and password you use on your SUSE box in the printer config must have rights on his machine to print.

ok i think i have everything filled out correctly. I click on test remote smb access, and it says the print server is accessible. So i click next and there are to more fields, location of printer and description of printer. Do I need anything there. There are also to boxes i can check one of them is already checked that says do local filtering and the other one is not and it says automaticlly propose multiple queues. When i click test printing nothing happens so I am assuming i need to put something in the other two fields but i do not know what.

the other fields are optional.

After you send a test page, go to a command line in linux and type lpq

this will let you know if the print job is even leaving your linux box or not.

Also, you did not mention anything about a username or password....did you fill in this info too?

Is the windows machine a W2K Pro or W2K home machine?

It is an xp home machine and for user name and password i am just using the user name and password on his computer. I do not believe he has any kind of security on the printer.
