Hey, Im trying to use my WINDOWS ipod on my mandrake 10 system (see signature) just as i would on my windows. I have a copy of gtkpod (lol but dont know how to install it). I would like to be able to take music off my ipod, play it on the computer, sync it with the mandrake system, etc. However when i linux-googled mount ipod i got a whole bunch of stuff about /dev and /etc/fstab and superuser and mount. I have root access, although I would like to be able to do everything from my regular user ("chester") but not from "guest". Thanks in advance.

^ most of this how-to is still applicable...

if it is a USB iPod then you can omit the firewire stuff - all you will need is the usb_storage module.

instead of these:

eee1394, ohci1394, raw1394, sbp2

you need the normal USB stuff and usb_storage loaded.

other than that - the rest is the same. (make sure you load vfat if it is modularized in your kernel or it won't be able to see the fat partition on the iPod)

there is a thread on this forum by loki3 about using a mini-ipod with usb and mandrake 10. use the search button for the top and search for "mini ipod mandrake" and you will find two loki3 threads that may be of some help.
