Hello Linux Pros:
I am fairly new, but I have found Justlinux to be a fantastic and very helpful site to get my questions answered. I have found so many good,
helpful people here who have lent a good ear to my questions.
I am using SUSE 9.1, basically as a home computer, not a server.
I need some help with my CD drives, which SUSE is recognizing, but
won't let me use! I know this has got to be a dumb simple problem,
but I don't know how to solve it.
Logged in as Root, I have full permission like God, to change anything and to assign permissions to everything, so I am told.
I have two CD drives, one is just a plain jane CD ROM, just a reader
and it is /dev/cdrom and it's directory is /media/cdrom.
I also have a CD Writer, and it is /dev/cdrecorder and its directory is
/media/cdrecorder.
I have right clicked on the desktop and assigned a device icon with full permissions (I mean all permissions in existance) to each device.
Then, I am using Konqueror (KDE release 3.2.1) and as ROOT, I click
on either my /media/cdrom or /media/cdrecorder directories and it comes back and gives me a no-name error of:
"could not open folder /media/cdrom"
- or -
"could not open folder /media/cdrecorder"
I tried clicking on each directory and giving each directory full permissions for access, but when I do this, it says, these directories are just LINKS and it has the permissions greyed out.
So I am totally stumped and don't know what to do, especially because SUSE is not even giving me a CLUE as to how to fix this....
Thank you to whoever helps me! ~ Jim Clark :):) :)  :) :)
