Found this, Decibels Udev Setup (http://webpages.charter.net/decibelshelp/LinuxHelp_UDEVPrimer.html) , have not used it yet, will report back when I get a chance to try. I thought it looked well laid out and seemed to be fairly comprehensive.

Decibels Help (http://webpages.charter.net/decibelshelp/) seems to be a good resource for other stuff as well.

It is indeed a great HOWTO, I used it in combination with the official gentoo udev documentation, and came up with a setup I really like. Custom naming of devices is very convienant along with many other things. Udev is the future, ditch devfs.

Very good!

Will the gentoo=nodevfs remove gentoo's complaint if devfs isn't around?

can I ditch devfs for udev? I don't want to have both running...

(I already have sysfs running now, and to quieten down gentoo I enable devfs mount at boot)

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/udev-guide.xml

Read this then ask your question again with a little bit more elaboration on exactly what you want to "quiet" down.

Opps, I mean that in Gentoo, when you disable devfs, it will show a banner like thingy on top of the screen in CLI, which is quite annoying. Will gentoo=nodevfs kill it?

I love posting this:

Unlike some "lesser" distros, Slackware 10 has udev enabled with the 2.6 kernel. So if you use Slackware, no need to really compile anything, just get right to setting up the devices as you need them. (YES! pumps arm) :D

HEY!!!

I LOVE GENTOO and I'm not changing so easily. I will only proceed to LFS or something, and not going back to slack. I think its too easy or something. It just don't give me the kicks, even if the problem is the same for both gentoo and slack

I've never seen such a banner before, would you care to elaborate?
