THANKS!!! :) XxMaCaBrExX 03-05-2001, 03:33 PM tried it once. hated it. you want to know what I hated about it? everything. ph34r 03-05-2001, 03:44 PM I've heard that it is a really nice Debian based distro. rod 03-05-2001, 03:51 PM Tried it and liked it. Used it before moving on to pure Debian. Very easy install, comparible to Mandrake. I believe that Storm went under, so no support from them is probably availible. Gotta love LNO for that. If you want a distro that is Debian based I would suggest Progeny. They have an iso here. (http://archive.progeny.com/images/) Easy install and support through their beta mailing list. Regards, Rod Desire 03-05-2001, 05:18 PM Stormix is still around ( just called them)and I have tried it and I like it. You can get the starter edition from them for $19 U.S. I tried the download version and the install went pretty painlessly with the exception that I had to copy the image to hard drive to get the kernel to load, other than that it went well. You can also download it for free at www.stormix.com (http://www.stormix.com) I've tried Caldera, Corel, Mandrake, Storm and Turbo and next batter up is Slackware. (RedHat is on it's way as I speak) Of all these I liked Storm and Mandrake the best at least for installing. Never did get Caldera to work. If you're totally new to Linux I recommend a good Linux book or a package that has a manual and some patience. I'm still very new to Linux but I love it and has aroused an appetite for programming and I fell in love with my computer all over again. Forget T.V. I get home and grab a coffee, run upstairs to my room and turn the radio and crank on the computer. Then come down for snack, another coffee and a quick smoke and I'm back upstairs again. Aikidoka 03-05-2001, 06:00 PM You can also try Libranet. You can download the iso image from their website. www.libranet.com (http://www.libranet.com) tallulah 03-05-2001, 06:24 PM Originally posted by rod: Tried it and liked it. I have been using Mandrake up until now. For the sake of thoroughness, I would like to know the particular reaons for which utter_macabre hates Storm Linux so! Thanks again all! :) XxMaCaBrExX 03-05-2001, 06:53 PM I'm a package-hog, cutting-edge release, upgrade freek! Stormix hasn't changed in almost two years at all one little smidgin'. Plus it wouldn't work on any of my computers at home. Very fast High-End pc's. The installation always crashed and rebooted at some point. I managed to get it installed at work, but it lacked many of the packages I use on a daily basis. I am primarily a Mandrake fan for Workstation use, and a Slackware fan for server use. Does that pretty much clear things up for you? ;) tallulah 03-05-2001, 07:11 PM Originally posted by utter_macabre: Plus it wouldn't work on any of my computers at home. Very fast High-End pc's... High-end hardware won't be a "problem" on this machine... Your comments were very helpful. :) Lend273 03-05-2001, 08:10 PM Libranet is great. Great support. They are coming out with a new version soon that incorporates the 2.4 kernel and Xfree 4.0.2. Len cookiemonster 03-05-2001, 09:20 PM I have been using libranet for all of 48hrs had a little trouble getting it set up right like remembering that sound driver for sblive goes in the kernil and not as a modual. once going is great and fast.
