I was just wondering- do you have hotmail and have you noticed any difference in the size of your inbox?

I logged into my account the other day (something I almost never do), and I noticed that I was only using like 1% of my inbox. I've had the account for 10 years, and it's almost always been full... Then I noticed that the space allowance had changed- I've got 250MB!! Nothing compared to my Gig at Gmail, but still not bad!

My girlfriend has hotmail, but it is in french, and she's still only got 2 MB.

I was just wondering if this was some sort of erratic thing or if MS coughed up some space for it's users...

It all started when GMail said they'd have 1GB. Yahoo and Hotmail both went to 100MB for free acnts (iirc). You can get more by paying. I don't know if Hotmail are trying to one-up Yahoo by going to 250MB?

My email provider GMX (http://www.gmx.net/de/index.html) offers 1GB storage for freemail and up to 10GB on paid services. If you feel comfortable about browsing German websites and uncomfortable about GMail's privacy policy, this could be an interesting option.

From what I hear they're not always so great... Und Deutsch ist auch kein Problem- midestens zum lesen... :D But I have my own account at school here (Fribourg), so I don't really need one right now. I just have them for stuff like JustLinux notifications, etc...

Anyway, I'm not a heavy e-mailer and I don't think I'll ever need more than like 10 MB, so...

Just thought it was nuts, that's all. The fact that inboxes are getting so big. I wonder it there is still a 2 MB cap on the e-mails you send...

I still have one, I'm working on moving most of it to gMail though :p

I never logon to it as I use hotwayd with Evolution...just checked and I still have only 2MB....while my gMail looks like You are currently using 16 MB (2%) of your 1000 MB:D:cool:

I have it too, and before the increase in size I already control the size of emails to 2%

And I've been using hotwayd too! even in windows I will not have it on my browser.

ah... but not everbody has a group of purely computer saavy friends! if i didn't use messenger, sure i'd change to something else, but they aren't changing, so i really can't.

I've still got one... you have to have a Microsoft Passport to login with your MSDN download subscriptions.

Hmm, you all do realise that GMail accounts can be registered with a Microsoft Passport and thus can be used on MSN Messenger?

Deutsch ist auch kein Problem für mich - viellicht werde ich GMX recherchieren... (coincidentally, do the Justlinux rules permit other languages? I assume so..)

like Rinias, I have had my hotmail account for like 10 years and I just logged into it today and found the extra storage space. I just went to the gmail page to see if I could setup an account and unless I am just being dense, I didn't see an account sign up page, just a login section for current users :) I am assuming it is still in the Beta phase

I guess they do permit other languages, but the mods probably won't like it as we'd able to break the posting guidelines and they wouldn't be able to tell if they don't happen to know the language. :D

Indeed, I have been thinking for a while if Justlinux should have subsections in other languages, like it is the case for example at Gentoo Forums. I wonder if the demand would be high enough to justify the effort. I have seen a couple German speaking people here and especially Spanish could worth a try considering the prevalence of the language in both Americas.

I for myself wouldn't mind modding a German forum. ;)

As for gMail, I think it still is in the beta phase. I know that I got my account from someone who sent me a subscription- that was like 4 or 5 months ago now... I'd send you one, but they don't give me any... :mad:

Yahoo mail has indeed bumped the quota up to 100 MB, and they have a search function.

As for forums in other languages- I dunno. Perhaps. Problem is, JL is not distro specific like Gentoo, so they don't need to support users in other languages, AND (what I see as a bigger problem), if the person can't speak English, they are just going to get frustrated by the lack of response...


However, if JL were to do that, (Parcival- you can suggesst that) I know that I'd be willing to contribute to the French and German forums as much as I could.

PS- how's Solothurn? Still haven't been there yet... ( E Schwytzertütsch kon i gar net... ;))

It would be cool if you did the French part as my French isn't as good as it used to be anymore. :) Say, you're the guy who has visted a couple times at our LUG in Bern, aren't you? I believe we have met there already. :)

You don't need to speak Swiss German to visit Solothurn (http://www.solothurn-city.ch/m/mandanten/139/topic2477.html) , French and English are fine. :)

Yes, a German forum is a great idea. I think that JL has enough users to warrant it, or if not then at least a "Non-English" forum. I'd be happy to watch over it as well, or at least translate for existing moderators...

I'd say place a poll in the suggestions forum for another language forum, see how many will actully use it (poll for languages, not a yes or no ;))

As for why I use hotmail...I got it before Microsoft bought them, and there are a few things I run into that need a Passport logon...I've never used MSN Messenger ;)

Not necessarily - Hotmail can be used in several different languages, too. :D

I had a Hotmail account, too, back in the days when Microsoft didn't own it, and I gave up on it once Microsoft bought them. Too bad the initial crew sold it, but when you get that much money I guess it's hard to say no. :(

I still only have 2MB of storage, 20% of that being used. I only have my account for messenger and for a contact address for forums etc. Also my uni account doesn't accept html so when someone sends you an email from a hotmail account it looks like crap, so i just get them to send to my hotmail account so i can at least read it.
