Here... I installed Lin fom my burner since the install would only accept cds in there, and not in my regular cdrom. Ok, FINE lol

But now...

I try to install selected components from Software mgr(Mandrake 8.1) and once I hit "Go", it needs a new CD, now I have 2 roms, 1 reader and 1 burner, and it asks for CD2, but get this... it pops out my reader and looks in my burner! I put cd2 in reader, and it says pleas insert cd 2, repeatedly opening the reader, also LOCKING the burner so I can't put it in there! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

What's goin on???

This is drivin me up a WALL...

I just d/led the newest Enlightenment, and it said it needed CD2 form Mandrake, popped out my reader, and just as I expected, it says it's not the right CD, although it is, then it proceeded to LOCK my burner door, so I can't put the CD in the drive that would get the job done! :(((

Maybe you should check your /etc/inittab to see how the drives are mapped.

Not sure if this helps, but I did check in harddrake, and found 2 entries for my burner
They show like this:
-----------[ Regular CDROM]---------------
Vendor: Unknown
Model: CD-ROM 48X/AKU
Device: /dev/hdd
Bus Type: ATAPI/IDE
-----------[ 1st burner entry ]----------
Vendor: Unknown
Model: CREATIVE CD-RW RW8438E
Device: /dev/hdc
Bus Type: ATAPI/IDE
-----------[ 2nd burner entry ]----------
Vendor: CREATIVE
Model: CD-RW RW8438E
Device: /dev/scd0
Bus Type: SCSI
---------------------------------------------
The burner is NOT a SCSI drive... It's IDE
What would happen if I deleted the SCSI one?

You need scsi emulation for a ide burner to work with Linux. /dev/scd0 is correct.
