Just like to say that this is my first post, forgive me if I don't give enough detail into my problem.
Firsly, don't get me wrong - I've used Linux for a couple of months now and I really like it. I mean, it kicks all the compition away, its just what I invisioned MY OS to be. Anway, down to the problem:
I picked up my new custom PC, bring it home, set it up on the table, bust out my freshly-burned Mandrake7.2 cd and pop it into the CD-Rom drive. I get down a couple of steps into the installation when all of a sudden, I get this freaky message:
An error occured - no valid devices were found on which to create new filesystems. Please check your hardwore for the source of this problem.'
Now, I'm thinking this has to do with my Harddrive, it must be... so take out the CD and boot the computer back up normally. This time, it boots me back right up into Windows just fine, not a peep. Hrm...
Once more, I reboot with the M7.2 CD in the drive and I make a note of what it says before it drops me into the GUI installer - when it is looking at the hd?s, it goes like this:
Hda - no response (resetting drive)
Hdb - no response (resetting drive)
Hdc - DVD blah blah blah (Note: it finds my DVD drive)
Hdd - Plextor CDR-W blah blah (Note: it finds my CDR-W drive)
then it spits out something fast, i think its something about the harddrive but i can't see it because it goes too fast. Next thing I know I'm back at the GUI and the same thing happens on the 3rd or 4th step.
I pop out the CD once more and reboot and I pause the boot at the system information screen and I notice this:
Primary Master Disk - none
Primary Slave Disk - none
it booted up fine into windows again. I dont know what should be there, so I don't know if that information is relevant.
I hope thats enough information, I think maybe the switches on my motherboard are out of place or something is not plugged in right... but why doesn't windows have a problem with that? Any help would be appreciated. Have a great evening.
