I was just moving some large files between machines and checked df to make sure I had the necessary space on a particular partition.

I noticed the following last line in the df output

/proc/bus/usb 1259071 1259071 0 100% /proc/bus/usb

I have usb ports, but don't have any usb devices plugged in --

anyone know what this is? should it be there? Is it just a virtual file system ste up by the USB host controller to manage usb devices???

you have USB support built into your kernel and the USB filesystem is a way to check on
any devices you may have pluged in.I dont use
USB so someone here who does could explain further.

The simple answer, yes. Pretty much you need it if you want to use a USB device. Presumably the kernel you booted with has the USB Virtual Files sytem compiled.
