hello all,

i have a dell latitude xpi p150 Cd laptop.
i've sucessfully installed slack7.0 and have since re-compiled the kernel several times in attempt to get the sound to work. the sound on the laptop is SB-pro compatible and is bases on the ESS 1888 chip. Has anyone ever been able to get this laptop to work w/sound or have had similar instances?

thanks much

You may be able to find your laptop model here http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop/ and perhaps find suggestions as to how to setup the ESS 1888.

I have the p133 version of the latitude and Peanut linux (for now) on it.

I *sort of* have the sound installed on it, it took a bit of putzing about to get a response from the sound card (or chip whatever)...for one, on mine it won't work using sndconfig, because the address I found (using a DOS utility) it was using was 230h rather than 220 or 240 that sndconfig lets you select...so I had to manually edit the modules.conf file.

Now I say *sort of* because now, sound files work..but play at a completely slowed down rate (ie: a 2 sec file will take 4 seconds to play...kinda like playing a tape in slow mo..or for those of us who are slightly older, playing a 45rpm single on 33rpm.)..I haven't figured out why that is yet or how to fix it.
