hi, i have just changed my distro to suse 9.0 and it is the best and easyest i have used so far,
but i am having trouble with my network as always,
i have also tryed them programs that install the windows drivers and i had no luck, suse is picking up my pci card realteck rtl 8180 (this is my card) so is the driver installed if its picking it up?
if it is installed (bare in mined im a newbie) i will need to add details like network name and stuff, i get confused when i fill all this in, i am useing windows and linux and im the only computer on linux in my home, hear are some details, can anybody tell me were to put the details?:
my router name is : james
my windows workgroup is : workgroup
router ip and dns is : 192.168.2.1
my network key is : 10 digit hex key
this is all i know,

my brother said if i set it to DHCP it will set it up automaticly, then i got confused,
i have read the books, howtos, readmes, and manual but still its a brain teaser. can anyone help me?

run the network config utility and set it to dhcp and it should give you an address if your wireless card works right. i suggest looking at ndiswrapper and seeing if your card is listed there, if it is download the ndiswrapper, install it, then download the drivers according to the ndiswrapper manual

it dident work, but i have just put in my new card wich is the dlink g520 then i whent to yast and i got this info (were you see * it means its got nothing there its just wating for me to type something there):


host name and server configuration :
host name - linux
domain name - local
name server - *
domain search - *


routing configuration :
default gateway - * (i think i should type 255.255.255.0 hear but not sure)


DHCP client options :
DHCP client identifier - *
host name to send - auto

hardwere details :
network interface
device type - wireless (this is correct)
device number - 0
kernel module
module name - ath_pci (shouldent this be d-link?)
options - *


wirless network card configuration :
operating mode - managed (if this is infra then its correct)
network name ESSID - *
network identifier NWID - *
encription key - * (should i put my 10 digit hex key hear?)
nick name - *

this is all i know, can some one help me with the places i have put a *?

The module name won't necessarily be d-link. The module is named after the chipset used on the wireless card, not the wireless card manufacturer.

i have set up my network useing ndiswrapper, it cool, thanks for ya help everyone, and to all you newbies reading this then it is posable to get a dlink g520 working in suse 9.1 or other distro just install ndiswrapper follow the instructions and use the inf file from the windows driver and boom your on the net after reboot,
