hey guys,
The boss has asigned me the task of teaching Linux to my fellow workmates here at the office, so that they can adapt to the company -wide shift to Linux (hooray!). This is no easy task! Part of my plan is to get them to practice what I teach them in some sort of Linux emulator for windows. I have heard of its existence but I don't remember how or where to get it, what it is called, etc.
Can anyone help with this????
 :p :)

vmware? Or why not setup one box and allow ssh connections, and then setup X forwarding to a win32 x server?

mmm honestly I dunno how I could do that under windows, since I did all my hard learning for system administration under Linux. Maybe I could talk with the "guy" that does Windoze here...but it would be nice to know how to do this. How could I set up an x server under win32?
And I know VMWare is not the solution I'm looking for...it would be sort of like a reverse solution, since it's a windows-under-linux.....and I'm looking for a linux emulator to run under windoze...

Isn't VMWare whatever-under-whatever? Like you could run a virtual Win2000 on a 98 box or a Linux system on a 98 box?

I use Linux as a guest on my 2k box here at work all the time. VMWare just plain rox. But it costs.
To setup X on a win32 box, you need to setup X forwarding, ssh, and get a win32 x server - tucows.com has a few listed.

I guess line (http://neomueller.org/~isamu/line/) is what you're looking for. The problem is that it is alpha software.

There's demo linux... no HD touching at all. Maybe a little old.
Peanut: small download. Also a little old.
Mnadrake has lnx4win, which doesn't require repartitioning. 8.0 is in beta.
Suse's FTP site has an ISO called 7.1 live evaluation, which is probably the same as above.
Haven't tried any of the above (except peanut)

1. Setup a Linux X Server with all the apps you wanna run
2. Get a Windows X Client (I looked a while back and there's loads but the all cost $'s, there's a few that give 30 day trials)
3. Telnet in to the X Server from client
4. Have a coffee and congratulate yourself on a job well done.
