Ok I originally started with RH6.1 and had few problems with it once I figured out a bit of what I was doing. Got kinda bored with it and decided to try a different distro so off to get Drake7.2. Got it and it is nice, everything works right out of the box (definately newbie friendly) but all it takes is one MakdrakeUpdate to break it to hell. So off to get Slack7.1 I go. I can't even get it installed, will NOT make a bootdisk for nothing and will not put lilo to the HD. Even tried last night AFTER deleting win completely. and still the same problems. SO here I go D/L slack again in case a bad copy, Rh 7.0 and debian. One of them will work tonight. I am totally PCless right now except for here at work and I feel so lost. God am I pitiful. ANyone have suggestions as to what is going wrong with any of them? As it stands now here are my specs

AMD 500
Maxtor 20 gig
3gig Win (for games)
200 meg linux swap
rest linux native
64 megs ram
S3 4(?) meg video card
ess1869 sound card
generic floppy
generic aptie(sp?) 24x cdrom
phillips cd-burner
Samsung 13 inch monitor
parrell zip drive
intel pro NIC

Thanks for anything anyone has to try.

Have a look at www.linux.org, (http://www.linux.org,) click on Distributions, and browse. They list 39 distributions of Linux.

Then stick with MDK 7.2 and don't update. The stuff in Cooker is not binary compatible with 7.2. Mandrake has just started the beta process for thier next version. I would imagine it will be ready by sometime in April.
