well, if it's plugged in follow the cord...

mandrake might have a gui for device management, i'd start there. look at the output of dmesg, all devices the kernel sees are mentioned here.

you might be able to mount it as a regular hard disk. my digi camera works that way, your camera may as well.

gscanbus may be an option as well to locate this camera. you cang et it from freshmeat.

Well you have to insert some modules to let it work with kino.
look at the modules directory and do a ls -l dv*

and try to insert them with modprobe.

If you can see it like a harddrive? I'm not sure about that, a digital photocamera oke, but a dv camera???

These are prolly the modules you need: ieee1394, ohci1394, raw1394 .

try a G4L search for "dv camera howto"

Video cameras don't show up as hard drives in my experience.

Assuming that you have all the correct modules loaded, then in Kino go to Edit->Preferences and select the IEE1394 tab. Your camera should hopefully show in there - it's pretty good about detecting it, IMHO.

Also, check out the gscanbus tool, which is a graphical view for IEEE1394 connections.
