I started using linux not that long ago and like it so far. I won't say what distro because I don't have time to read all the posts about how I should be using this one or that one instead.

So here's my question. I have a couple of pcs running linux. I'd like to hook up my computers to a KVM so I can save room on my desk. Right now all the pcs are under my desk and all the monitors and keyboards are on top. It's getting crowded in both.

All the machines are hooked to my network. I was thinking about hooking them all up to a KVM switch so I could have just one monitor, keyboard and mouse. But then I read about linux having problems with some KVMs and so on.

I found a new feature in linux I really like. I love virtual desktops. So I got to thinking. Is there a way either through my network or KVM to have my other linux pc show up under the virtual desktop thing instead of htting a key combo or something to switch? You know like having pc1 on the screen and then click a virtual desktop square and being taken to the desktop of pc2?

If not I think this would be a really cool feature. It would be really nice if I could even move windows from one desktop to the other like you can with the virtual desktop.

Are you using KDE?
You can use VNC VNC howto (http://www.freeos.com/articles/3292/)
and start X11 remotely. KDE has Remote Desktop included on most distributions.
In the future:
KURD (http://kurd.sourceforge.net/) is still in developmental stage.
Or you could boot the remote machine into Gnome, etc. This would be on one virtual desktop, your local machine would be on another, etc.

Yep, VNC is definitely what you're looking for. And it requires no more hardeware than you have now.

BTW, ps/2-vga KVM's work fine. I've seen multiple in action with no problems ;). "scroll scroll up" :).
