sorry to have to post this here. As this is the only decent place to get a good answer I can think of it is a bit of a last resort. Basic***y I helped my girlfriend's dad reinst*** windows :( (still got a bit of work to go before he will be using linux i think ) *** went prety well. Problem is instead of having them using that windows messenger piece of sh!t i inst***ed the windows version of AMSN, one more step away from bill, along with the image magik thing it recommends. Inst*** seemed to go well, but when I try and connect I recieve this error Error connecting to server: couldn't open socket: invalid arguementWindows being windows that is *** the info I can give you sorry. If anyone can help out here it would be appreciated. Hope I dont have to inst*** the microsoft version again:rolleyes:
ps/ if this is not an appropreate post in the linux forums feel free to remove.

thanks :)

Haven't got an answer to your problem unfortunatly but if you are running Windows why not run msn? Amsn for Linux is a good alternative but Microsoft's msn is way better, plus it has webcam support.

I actually like msn for windows.

Cheers :)

maybe he had problem with the MSN one.

For example, one fellow forumer can only use the MSN protocol with AMSN but not MSN, cos it is so buggy itself.

I would have to agree, run MSN Messenger for Windows instead if you have to use it. I haven't had any problems with it. If you're having connection problems, it could also be due to the servers being down. Can you connect to MSN with the windows version?

Also, why is the world "all" being cencsored from your post?

X_console, I was saying that he had to use AMSN in WINDOWS to use MSN becos MSN Messenger for Windows will not work. Fancy the creator of the software to have it fail.

why is the world "all" being cencsored from your post?that's strange, I didnt notice that when I posted it. Have no idea where it came from.

I guess I will have to install the windows messenger then. Things like file transfers never work through msn messenger. But they seem to work in AMSN for me. I suppose it is not too much of a problem to use msn tho, just not the prefered option.

I've successfully ran AMSN on Windows XP in the past. Unfortunately, it was a couple years ago, so the details are all sketchy.

But basically, the main thing you have to do is to install a TCL/TK interpreter for Windows. IIRC, ActiveTCL is what I used:

http://www.activestate.com/Tcl.plex

Then, just extract the AMSN TCL/TK scripts somewhere, and then run them with the wish interpreter that should come with ActiveTCL.

I think this is what I did, but I really can't remember. All I know is that I got it working.

Good luck with it!
