Well?? Now give me some damn good reason why i should use Linux. NO GAMES and when you try to use some nice device you run into problems when trying to get it work with Linux. Why bother??? In Windows you just plug it and that's it!
But if you guys can tell some good reason why i should use Linux, i will try it!
You need some very good reason because right now i think you all are just some mutha****ers using that piece of crap!!! And don't tell me it's free-i don't want any crap even if it was free, i will pay for a good product!!!

The point of Linux isn't being free ... For me, the main point is that it's OpenSource ! It's just like a philosophy, if you don't have it, and if you are not curious on how this works, keep using windows ...

Err, you say that you run into problems when using devices in Linux, then you say:
But if you guys can tell some good reason why i should use Linux, i will try it!
So, how is it? Have you used it or not?
You need some very good reason because right now i think you all are just some mutha****ers using that piece of crap!!!
I feel the same about you, you mutha****a Windows user.
And don't tell me it's free-i don't want any crap even if it was free, i will pay for a good product!!!
You obvisouly have got it all wrong - it's not free as in you don't have to pay for it, it has to do with freedom.
Anyway, I don't think people like you should use Linux. Why the hell do you want us to give you reasons for using Linux when you seem to have already made up your mind about it?
Yeah, I know I shouldn't feed the trolls... I bet this is Goughmezz in disguise.

Why should anyone here convince you to use Linux? As Muzzafarath said you sound like you already made up your mind.
You are free to use whatever OS you want,if you prefer to use windows then so be it.But coming here trashing Linux just shows you are nothing but a troll.

If you just want your OS to plug in and work, why are you using Windows? You would be better off with a Mac. In any case, I have fewer problems with upgrades and so on under Linux than I have with Windows.

Hey Muzzafarath, i didn't say i have used Linux. I just hear people having a hell lot of problems when they try to get some devices working with it, like some modems.
Yes, i've made up my mind about Linux but i'm just curious to know why you all are so religious about a piece of amateur crap. There must be some magic in it. I just want to know what magic it is and i may even try Linux if you give me a good reason. I may became a mutha****a, also.
And stop that troll ****. That's just sick, dudes, SICK! If you play stupid Windows users then i can come here and call you dicksuckers.

What the hell is this RATING ****??? I had one star-thank you all!-and now it says i have four of them? I still have one when i click to see my profile! Is this some new Linux suckers invention or what??? FOUR STARS? WHERE DID I GET THEM? I HAVEN'T SUCKED ANYONE'S ***!!! Is someone rating others with a random number generator or what?
Ha. At least i can also rate you dicksuckers.

I think the point here is it's up to -YOU-.
What would you use Linux for? I run Slack on a celeron 333 with 64 MB of PC-100 RAM, a 1MB video card (I don't use x on that machine), 3 20 GB HD's, and a 3COM NIC.
I use my box for 3 things: SAMBA file/printer sharing (it's a HELLUVA lot faster and more secure than win2k advanced server) and a development box for php/mysql.
And the last thing is to learn how to use a U*IX operating system for my own knowledge and understanding.
If you want to play games, keep on using windoze. I use windoze on the machine I'm writing this post on, because I play games..
It all comes down to what you're going to use it for...but certianly don't bash it if you've never tried it. Linux is a very nice OS -IF- and -ONLY IF- you take the time to bother to learn it..

This piece of amateur crap is being coded by some of the most capable programmers out there. (Some of which, by the way, just got an email job offer from Microsoft.) To find out why they do write code and give it away and also why we are all so religious (which really is true) about some piece of computer software you should take a look at the writings (http://tuxedo.org/~esr/writings/) by Eric S. Raymond. If you are willing to learn about the linux comunity read at least The Cathedral and the Bazaar and A Brief History of Hackerdom.
If you can't be bothered to read so much or if it's above your head than keep trolling around here but don't expect any of us to try and convert you.

Open mind. Open Source. Open Future!

Please rate me, your opinion means so much to me.
I happen to use Debian as my operating system of choice. There are many reasons, here are just a few.
1)Debian's Social Contract, important, at least to me. (http://www.debian.org/social_contract)
2)The best package management availible. Installing packages and upgrading is as easy as apt-get install <what.ever.package> and apt-get dist-upgrade. Never having to purchase a new upgrade or version.
3)No bloat, install a base system then add only what you want or need.
4)Because of number 3, you get a sleek, fast and stable operating system.
5)You want security, Take a look at this. (http://www.debian.org/security/) No waiting weeks or months, possibly years for security updates.
I could go on an on. I will stop here and challenge you to try Debian. What have you got to loose, it's free.
No games for linux is a false statement. Take a look here. (http://www.lokigames.com/)
It's common to run something into the ground, when you are afraid or don't understand it.

I will admit windows2000 is pretty stable.
I run some massive software on it (actual software; not games), and it rarely freezes.
and 2000 doesnt use kernel technology (I believe!! THINK!), which is good, because windows kernel technology is ***. pure *** - and that is why 95,98, and ME are... yes.. pure ***.
as for linux,
stable.
Stable.
Stable -
and there is choice.
I love the theory behind linux,
its almost liberating to use it.
And of course change is nice;
it keeps the right brain active.

I am a newbie at Linux, but the O/S rocks! Windows isn't bad if you want an easy, no brainer, click here environment. Why waste time bashing Linux when you can just try it and see. Is your frustration with Linux really with the users...NO, I think not! I believe it goes a little deeper than that. Maybe, you are afraid to 'tackle' such a task you are unsure of. Bottom line, it's up to you either "**** or get off the pot".

Well?? Now give me some damn good reason why i should use Linux. NO GAMES
Actually the number of games is always increasing, and even if it wasn't, I wouldn't care. I don't really give a rat's *** about games, and it's not what Linux was designed for.
and when you try to use some nice device you run into problems when trying to get it work with Linux.
There's so much venting I could do here that I don't even want to start. But umm let's just say you're wrong for now.
But if you guys can tell some good reason why i should use Linux, i will try it!
Ummm cuz you might actually learn something about computers?
I think using Linux teaches you a lot about how computers work, because it doesn't do everything for you. Windows does a lot for you. You can plug in a piece of equipment, provided your pc has plug'n'play and it will set it up for you...maybe. It may not do it for you and then you'll have a problem of not knowing what to do next. Windows also teaches you a lot about rebooting.
I think Linux is about doing it yourself, with a little help from your friends, whereas Windows is about paying someone else to do it for you and hoping they did it the way you like. If not you'll just have to live with it because you won't know how to do anything about it, because you love to follow Windows rules.

Reasons for using windows.... (according to Windows Rules!)
1. Games
-Anyone heard of a playstation or an N64? I'm not dogging computer games, but I'm not spending $500-$1000 on a machine that another machine can do for $200. I'm not into Networked games, but I understand for those who are.
2. Hardware (specifically modems)
- I think I paid an extra $10 for an external hardware modem, maybe I got a good deal or something
I don't know about anyone else, but I bought a computer to get some work done and maybe learn something here or there in the process. Not play DOOM/QUAKE all day. Linux is also a nice change of flavor, I get tired of one distro, then move on to another. Easy as that. I don't see that happening in Windows anytime soon
For those wondering, I still have a windows machine, just haven't booted it in about 4 months!

Not that I like to 'feed the trolls' also, but you sound to me to be someone that probably couldn't operate a windows machine either. There is MUCH more to linux than games (even though the most popular one's are ported over to linux). I won't waste my time explaining to you of free firewalls, file servers, email servers, etc.
Tell you what: compare your free M$ firewalls and file servers to linux free firewalls and fileservers. Oh yea, that's right. Microsoft don't have anything like that that is free :( . Ok, how about your free email servers? Oh, shoot. wrong again.
Ok, how 'bout the stability of Win98 or WinME vs. Linux 2.x? What's that? Your machine just crashed again? Oh, darn! How can we play if I got the upper hand? :D
Oh, BTW, I get pamphlets every other day about certain 'workshops' for Microsoft brainwas...err training people on "what to do about system crashes"! Funny, I never received one on linux!

I use it because I don't want to be one of the Bill Gates mindless drones. It's not all that tough once u get used to it. Windoze was as complicated when I first started using it. Now *doz is going to be <XP that is> subscription based<heh> wait till people have to start paying a yearly fee to have an os for their puter, or contact microsuck everytime they need to add a hdd or a vid card. then u'll see how good doze really is. :p

Yep, they said not to feed trolls, but...
So, Windows rules! (ooh, what a unique and ingenious nick), you've never used Linux and you're bashing it? How do you know that Linux is a piece of cr@p if you've never used it? Hmm... this guy knows everything beforehand.
If your only reason to use computers is games, why even bother buying and upgrading one and learning to use it? You've heard about console games, huh? Here's a way to support your beloved Microsoft: buy an Xbox!
Linux is stable. You've heard it a million times by now, but it really *is* stable. Is your OS stable or have you noticed your game sessions end pretty badly sometimes?
I admit Linux isn't a point-and-click or plug-and-pray OS like Windows, so using Linux requires a little more brains than using Windows. But then again, you learn a lot when you use Linux, and you don't need any bleeding edge hardware to run it at decent speed.
Now, Windows rules!, go get a copy of Linux somewhere and install it. Then you can see if it's cr@p. If you get some problems, come here and ask - you know, you don't have to pay us to get any help. We don't charge anyone, not even an idiot.

I've been involved with computers since 1979 and have watched them evolve. Back then CP/M was the main OS. Along comes the IBM-PC with MS-DOS, and things started to change . Windows was developed for the masses who couldn't or wouldn't take the time to learn all about operating systems. A lot of people made a lot of money from people like you. I look out over my 100 acres and think "Windows isn't really an OS, but damn, I'm not going to bad-mouth it". Linux is a breath of fresh air to a lot of people; me included. Linux isn't for everyone, and I don't think it's for you. I've been using Linux for two years now and have watched it change and get better. So keep on using using windows if your main interest is games, but my box is busy running the home alarm, environmental controls, home automation controls, WP, spreadsheet, FAX, etc,etc...
