I messed around and was able to use 'ndiswrapper' to support my Linksys WMP54G with Fedora to get wireless access a few months ago. Anyone know if there are any distros out there that support wireless 'out of the box' yet?

The wireless drivers are included in the kernel. If you use a recent kernel, which most distros use, then you'll have wireless drivers installed.

ndiswrapper is a 'third-party' app that allows you to use the Windows driver under Linux.

This will not be used in the kernel, ever, as it will violate many things, namely the GPL.

Unless the makers of the card allow their code to be open sourced this will never happen. I use the Intel Pro Wireless, which Intel has open sourced, but will never expect this to be available in the kernel as even this uses closed firmware.
