A not so prominent University's IT center is making the claim that the security of an NT domain is compromised by having a Linux server running on it. I am puzzled, maybe because I am a newbie but it is the first time I am hearing a claim like this. Is there anyone with some informaion on the topic???

One would think the security of an NT domain would be questionable with NT boxes on it :P Especially with all the NT exploits being found lately.

If anything, the NT domain would compromise the Linux server.

Security for Linux is much tighter than for NT, I take they are talking about samba shares? In which case they are authorized by the NT controller. Show me an administrator who believes that linux is less secure than NT and I will show you an administrator with an IQ of my shoe size. Even the MCSE's here(of which I am one) know that Linux/Unix is much more secure, we have many on our network..which I can GUARANTEE is much larger than their network. More than likely you are dealing with NT admins who are just not knowledgeable about linux and are simply accepting the propaganda that M'soft puts out on blind faith. On my home network, samba(slack distro) is my PDC and file server and it interacts with 2k, novell 6, and Solaris 8. I would put security in this order:
Solaris
Slack
Novell
any other os excluding micrsoft
and finally
...NT
