Half of the stuff linux loads up I'm sure I don't need (sendmail, pcmcia, apm, etc.).. Does anyone know of a good FAQ that would tell me what these things do so I know if I can safely remove them?

One more thing.. When I'm shutting down, md.c gives me an error. If I'm correct, this is used for RAID disks (or I could be wrong).. Can I get rid of this easily?

You know what's funny.. I'm using RedHat, and seems like whenever I'm looking for help, I always get sent to a mandrake site..

Maybe I should have thought about what distro to get before I did this. Mandrake seems so much more user friendly..

Look for a NHF in security. I think it's covered in basic home machine security or something like that.

Some of those things you can turn off with the setup program.

Here's a few simple questions: :D

If I disable APM, will my monitor still power off after 10 mins?

If I have no intentions of adding any new hardware to my computer, is it safe to remove kudzu?

The only networking I do it sharing a dir and printer through samba..do I need nfslock?

thanks!
