New Linux user here.

I have a Poweredge Dell box which has Debian on it. I have to remove this and replace with Redhat due to some 3rd Party software we're going to run on it.

I've done an hour or so on google but everyone seems to be going from Redhat to Debian - not the other way round. Can someone give me some pointers? or how to just blow the current OS away.

Cheers

A normal install, specifying to use the whole drive, will remove any traces of Debian from the machine.

My problem is I don't know how to get the Dell box to the boot: prompt. This is my first exposure to a Linux/Intel I come from solaris backgound - what is the equivalent of issuing a shutdown command and booting from the cdrom at the OK prompt?

When I use a shutdown -H on this Dell box - I can get to the boot prompt but it brings up a red box with a debian option and nothing else?

Cheers

To shutdown the box you could either use shutdown -h now or halt.

Assure that your cdrom is set to the first boot device in the bios. Reboot with the RH cd inserted.

Thnks - cdrom was behind c: in the BIOS.
