Ok recently i had a problem su'ing to root so i just upgraded to Fedora Core 1 and fixed that but now i try and run GNU Cash and it starts to start but then nothing happens it just closes without a peep. What is my problem. I tried to install a new version of GNU Cash but had package dependancy problems. So im lost. I tried to download the individual packages but that didnt work so any help would be great. BTW i cant run it in root either. Thanks

you may want to give apt a shot if you use the apt link in my sig it will take you to a great site for apt info and if you doenload dag's apt package, he has like 5 repo's setup and one of those should have gnucash and all the dependinces as will if you want you can just add the app repo's dag has to your current sources although geting his apt package may be eaiser. have you tried running rpm -e gnucash from a console? let me know how things turn out. just be sure to read the info on dags site and you should be fine.
post back with your results

 let me know how the upgrade goes, when it finishes or if you have problems with gnucash try removing gnucash with apt, did you install synaptic also? ( a gui frontend for apt?) if you have issues with gnucash try removing it with apt or you can try rpm -e ----nodeps foo-1.0-1.i386.rpm from a root console
(replace foo with gnucash and version #)
keep me posted

I even removed the program completly...im going to try and remove the program and restart and see what happens...but i thought that you didnt have to restart with linux..oh well thanks

did apt say whether or not GNU cash was installed? what about the rpm -q command? try running rpm -q gnucash from a console and let me know what message it returns. rather then rebooting your whole box try rebooting just X- windows next time with CRTL + ALT + Backspace!
we will get this worked out togeather :D

your right tuxnewb,
according to the rpm -q command it looks like gnucash-1.8.8-1 is still installed, what does apt say about gnucash, does it show it as being installed? Does rpm -e give use the same error as before? we may want to try rebuilding your RPM database, but before we do that let me know what both apt and rpm -e have to say:) and your welcome:D but I should be thanking you for defending our country

OK ITS FIXED.... I did a google on that Orbit error I got. It said to go to my /tmp dir and do rm -rf orbit* i did that to delete all the dir's with orbit....then started gnucash again and now it works...only problem is that all my terminal bg's and stuff got erased but its a small price to pay for having my gnu cash back thanks so my bosox you were more then helpful...gotta love this community....

ALRIGHT i updated from the disk and had Anaconda rebuild my orbits files (i guess) and now everything is peachy if you have this same problem I suggest you just delete the orbit and do like i did and upgrade from disk...unless someone else has a better idea...cause i know i dont....thanks again bosox

tuxnewb,
Thanks for letting us know how you fixed the problem, now when someone else comes here looking for a solution to this problem they should find this thread:D
and no thanks necessary :D

the only problem that I have with the fix is that it is not really a solution...its a last resort type thing...I dont like fixes that require me to load the OS again I should be able to get around it someway...regardless im not gonna break something that is already fixed but yes this is one possible fix :)

your right you should not have to reinstall the OS, I am sure if we did some more troubleshooting we could have solved the problem another way:)
