Hi,

I've got a problem with pppd on RedHat 7.2. I can dial up fine, and keep a connection, I just cant use it. Any page I try to visit just times out. I tried pinging the ISP's ip, and that works, but if I ping 'www.google.com' I get nothing.

I suspect it may be a problem the DNS setup, as it cant seem to resolve any addresses. But I have set up /etc/resolv.conf

I am totally stuck here, but I don't think that this is a one off, as I remeber having the same problem last time I ran 7.2, and just using kppp instead.

Cheers.

Iirc there is another set of conf files ppp uses depending on the dialer used. Not in linux at the moment but maybe /etc/ppp or /etc/sysconfig/ppp? Or /etc/sysconfig/network ?

Also, have you tried wvdial?

IT sound likely. That's the one thing I don't like about RH, it's unwillingness to standardise, and it's tendency to take a well organized and assumed structure (such as the /etc/ tree) and scatter it freeking everywhere.

Basiacally I just set up:
/etc/resolv.cof
/etc/ppp/options
/etc/ppp/<my own chat script>
/etc/ppp/pap-secrets

and then just involke pppd to dial up, which is does but I just cant get anywhere with the connection.

I'm too tired to boot up the problem mach and do anything about it at the moment, but I will let you know how it goes.

I suspect that I am not the first to encounter this problem, and that is is a Red Hat 7.2/7.3 indisyncracy, as I have seen many similar posts (all without resolution). I may just use kppp again.

But if anyone got pppd set up in RH7.2/7.3 i would love to hear from you.

Cheers,
Dylan
