I took my linux box to work so we can run some windows apps till we can buy new computers next fiscal year. I tried to run fdisk to reformat the hard drive but it just hangs with a cursor on the screen. The hard drive is spinning but it does nothing.
I used a windows boot disk to run it and to install cd rom drivers but no go :(

Use Linux's fdisk instead.

Use a Linux boot disk. It usually contains a Linux fdisk that has more capabilities that Windows'. Window's fdisk can't recognize any filesystem other than it's own. Linux can recognize a lot more, and you might have more flexibility in using it. Also consider using cfdisk, it looks a lot more like Windows' fdisk.

I had a problem lile that and what ever I tried fdisk, gdisk, delpart and many versions of partition magic and nothing would clear my partitions with errors on.

So i bit the bullet and used the debug command which according to some can F**K up your drive if you do it wrong see link:

Hope this helps
