You don't have to sacrifice anything, just read man pages and other documentation. The best sources of info are free.

Yes, read read read. And dont be afraid to break something. You can always fix it, and I guarrentee you that you will gain new knowledge from fixing it.

Buy lots of books, especially Oreilly. They are the best.

Hmm and install Debian once you get semi-familiar with Linux. It is a god sent.

 Debian

Reiterate the above. I would spend less on books in the beginning and spend more time here for example. I'm not by any means saying forbode books altogether, but pick 1 or 2 tops. Some people plop down and get 5 or 6+ thats wrong.

There is a ton of information here at LNO and you will learn alot of the LITTLE things that books never ever cover. Of course the big things are covered here too, but rarely in the detail that you may find in a book. However, the value lies in the specific problems people run into. Its these problems that contain the different information that help people learn that *much more.

And lastly, time. There is no shortcut for that.

Thanks All!! I can now see how good the linuxcommunity is. Thank GOD for Linus Torvalds for making a diference. Now i know what to do. Besides i have only been using linux for 3 - 4 months and i already can master the basic stuff. But im glad i have people that can help. I hope to spend a lot more time here. I also will like to print out all of the LNO articles with your permission Sensei and make a little book for myself and maybe other friends of mine. But i will not sell it or modify it in any way. I think in the only one in the whole island that uses linux at home.

Well thanks for all ur time. :)

Books and videos alone will not help you. Being "elite" is nothing more than a side effect. The truly "elite" do not set out on a quest for knowledge to obtain elite status. This is only a formality that takes place and has no true bearing in the world of that which is elite. To be elite is to learn strictly based upon the desire to know and the enjoyment of that alone. It is the enjoyment of the system, code, etc that will extract the maximum amount of knowledge. If you enjoy Unix, then you will spend the time it takes to learn it completely and it will come to you without much effort. :)

Live, sleep and eat Linux/UNIX. Make a home network and read the documentation. Then spend at least 4 years in computer science in university. And oh by the way, 10 to 15 years on a help desk and in an IT department might help!

Reading books is okay, but I'd recommend against reading videos. You might want to use a VCR for videos, instead: it can read them for you, and display the video contents on a screen, as well as projecting the audio contents through a set of speakers. You can get a combination video-screen and speaker system called a "television" which would fulfill all the output needs of a aforementioned VCR.

First you must "st4rt t4lk1n6 l1k3 th1s". That is the first step to becoming "elite"

Just get in there and do it....
that is the best way....

After a while someone will ask you a question, and when you anser it You will say to your self " I am getting better" and you will want to learn more.. and so on and so forth.

"Winners forget they are in a race, they just love to run."
