I know there is a statement to add to /etc/lilo.conf to get all the memory seen. I also remember it has to go in a certain place and there is a certain syntax...can anyone refresh my memory please?
Thanks

Thanks atl2ptown 04-10-2001, 08:09 PM Yeah at the end of the /boot/vmlinux section, add the line, append=" mem=_m" _ stands for x amount of memory. bdg1983 04-11-2001, 05:49 AM The question is also answered in the LNO NHF's and FAQ's. Explains all. LoRdMaUL 04-11-2001, 10:09 AM I looked for an NHF on here and didn't see one...here is my lilo.conf: boot=/dev/hda6 map=/boot/map install=/boot/boot.b vga=normal default=linux keytable=/boot/us.klt prompt timeout=50 message=/boot/message other=/dev/hda1 label=windows table=/dev/hda other=/dev/fd0 label=floppy unsafe image=/boot/vmlinuz label=linux root=/dev/hda6 append="" will the amount of memory go in the quotes of that append statement? I didn't put that there...so I am not sure if that is where to put it or not. One more thing...will it be 128M or 128m? Seems like I remember the M or m making a difference. LoRdMaUL 04-12-2001, 03:09 PM boot=/dev/hda6 map=/boot/map install=/boot/boot.b vga=normal default=linux keytable=/boot/us.klt prompt timeout=50 message=/boot/message other=/dev/hda1 label=windows table=/dev/hda other=/dev/fd0 label=floppy unsafe image=/boot/vmlinuz label=linux root=/dev/hda6 read-only append="mem=128M"<---didn't work I put that line at the beginning of the file also and it still only sees 64 mb of RAM. Any ideas? demetrius 04-12-2001, 04:15 PM Did you rerun lilo after you made the change to your lilo.conf file? LoRdMaUL 04-12-2001, 06:26 PM yep...i reran /sbin/lilo bdg1983 04-13-2001, 04:24 AM Sorry, I know it used to be in one of the NHF's. Was in the Where is my memory (http://www.linuxnewbie.org/cgi-bin/faq/faqw.py?req=all#6.8) FAQ though. LoRdMaUL 04-13-2001, 03:33 PM well I did see a section in the FAQ's about this and did what it said but it still doesn't see all the memory. Phax 04-13-2001, 04:34 PM You may want to check your acctual hardware. I had a problem similar to this about a year ago and found out that one side of my 64ram card had burnt out. LoRdMaUL 04-13-2001, 09:55 PM the hardware in this case is an IBM Thinkpad 770E dual-booting with Windows 2000 professional....All the memory is seen in 2000 with no problem... bdg1983 04-14-2001, 04:39 PM Sometimes you may need to decrease the amount of memory you specify in the append statement. For 128MB, try 127MB and if that still doesn't work, decrease by 1MB increments until it does. If it never does, then something else must be wrong. Try looking through your BIOS settings. LoRdMaUL 04-14-2001, 11:02 PM nevermind...i just blew mandrake away and put the RedHat Wolverine on it and all is well now.. :) iresprite 04-14-2001, 11:31 PM Hmm. Right now, I'm running into a problem where I put in 2 additional 128MB DIMMs, and the memory test only sees 256 MB out of the 384. My motherboard supports 384MB- I'm sure of this. I don't think any of them are in backwards.. it's very frustrating. Glad to see you found an expedient solution, though :) Peace, Iresprite justlinux.com
