When I last installed redhat linux on my laptop I noticed that little button underneath the monitor (The one that turns of the backlight on the lcd screen) didnt function. Does redhat linux (or linux) not have support for it or did I misconfigure it or forget part of the configuration?

If it is not supported anyone have any ideas on how to make it function?

And how can I program my laptop so the quick buttons up by the I/O button (You know email internet find and music) so that they open certain programs

The button for the screen is not controlled by the OS as all. It is a hardware button that turns off the screen when the lid is closed. If you're doesn't do that then it may be broken

For the quick buttons check out a program called LinEAK (Linux Easy Access Keys), it probably won't have a profile for your laptop keyboard, but they have very easy instructions on how to create new profiles, it only takes about 5 minutes and it's probably the easiest way to get those types of things working.

Is your laptop dual booting? Can you tell if that button works with any other OS or distro? Basically, can you rule out a hardware problem? If so, and this is a shot in the dark btw, maybe it's an apm thing?
