delaying intialization..???

HellO ...
i've a problem with 3com network card in my laptop ..after compiling kernel 2.4.22 it give me this msg even when i try to activate it from network configuration
"3c59x device eth0 does not seem to be present , delaying initialization"
i've i same message with 2.4.20 but ...it work ...

What does /usr/sbin/lspci -v say you have for a network card?

Have you tried kernels newer than 2.4.22, or are you still vulnerable to the three or four local root exploits and the one denial of service attack vector, which were all fixed in those later kernels?
