Guys !
I have a Windows user wants to replace his Windows Me on his Asus PIII/500MHz 128MB RAM laptop(he is sick of it crashing).
Now, HOW can we pull out the Microshaft Access files where he keeps his patient's records and convert it into WHAT on Linux ?
Does Adabas in StarOffice able to read Access files ?
Any ideas ?

If it is a one-time conversion, you could prolly turn them into a text file of some sort (comma delimted?) and then import them into StarOffice's DB program...

you can export microsoft access databases to ODBC. This means that you can set up a dsn that points to a mysql database then export the access files to it. I would stay away from StarOffice (I haven't used Adabas though) it is very slow even on computers that have power. Another posibility is to export then to csv. Then you could put them into postgreSQL (or probably any other database) I just installed PostGreSQL over the weekend to play with. within a day I had it set up and running. I exported an access 97 database of the King James Bible, then imported it to PostGreSQL. Worked out pretty good.

Adabus can read Access databases, tho it isn't the best solution. It is part of a slooooow office suite. Try exporting that database. I believe you can export it to comma delimited, and then you can import a comma delimited file into any database (provided the tables are set correctly).
Can I just have your brand new car?
