Hi,

I have a Win2k/RH7.2 dual boot machine.

I have 2 ntfs partitions, a ext2 partition w/ swap part., and one fat32 partition that windows and rh share data on.

Can I defrag the ntfs/fat partitions and not harm the linux partitions/data?

ext2 defragmenting?

thanx,

Defraging the NTFS and fat partitions will have no affect on your linux partitions.

You don't need to defrag a ext2 partition (In fact, I've only heard of one program that will do it ;) ). Its very good at keeping your files in the correct order, although someone else will need to tell you why, because I don't have all the details.

the ext2 filesystem only starts fragmenting noticably after several years of heavy use.

hrm... will fsck 'fix' the fragmentation problems on these, uh, computers?
