I was wondering how easy it is to write X apps that have the Gnome look/feel (GTK2 API, right?). Let's say I just wanted to open a window with a button that you click, which closes the app. How difficult is something like that?

Basically, I know my way around C very well, and C++ not quite as well but good enough. Where can I learn how to write GTK apps? Preferably I'd like to use an IDE type interface (like Visual Studio). What do you suggest, for someone who knows C but knows zilch about designing graphical apps for X?

Thanks!

PS: I guess part of the problem is, I don't know the terminology. If I did, I could use google and probably get all my answers. What should I search for? "linux gtk2 development"? "gtk ide"? I found something called eclipse...

I thought glade was a gui design tool?

OK.. glade looks cool :) Didn't know about it. I wonder if I can actually code within it and compile? If it's typical to have these GUI designers separate from your code..then how do you integrate the two?

Hm, not sure which glade to get. The official site says 2.0.1 is the latest, but swaret shows 2.6.0?

debian says 2.6.0 as well, so I'd recommend going with swaret.

Maybe I shouldn't have said old-schooler :) I gotta have an IDE though... so it seems like glade is the way to go

HAHA! Ok, I saw this page:

and said to myself, no way.. I don't have time to code that by hand. :) Maybe back in the day when I was a college kid. I gotta have an IDE to generate the GUI code for me.... big time :)
