I click it and it does nothing. I'm root.
Any ideas?

Also, is there anyway to get the panel to always be on top? Thanks!

Log out as root and log in as a normal user and the lock screen should work out perfectly.

It's been a while since I used Gnome. If I remember correctly, Gnome offers the same option that kde does: right click on the desktop. The popup menu should have lock screen as an option. That option should work even when logged in as root (at least, it does in kde).
