I'm currently running enlightenment by itself right now with debian
testing tree(woody) but I've been looking into ximian gnome and
evolution etc. Does anyone run any of these? I'm curious how they run?
Is there a noticable drop in performance with going to a full blown
desktop solution like ximian from a window manager?

I have a 300 PII with 256mb RAM, so I erverything runs quite well.. Any thoughts on whether I should upgrade or not?

1. I have been running Ximian since it first started as the Helix-Code Gnome dekstop. It's terrific. The updating utility is excellent, it has a very slick look, and Evolution is just incredible. I can't live without Ximian anymore.

2. Well, you aren't abandoning a Window Manager coming to Ximian. It's just a conversion to Gnome. I use Sawfish as my WM and you can continue using E if you want.

3. Yeah you should upgrade just for the sake of doing it. A faster CPU would compliment your decent stock of ram very well.
