RedHat and Mandrake

G'day Linux peoples. I want to set up a Linux system but I am very new to this idea. I have a copy of Mandrake Linux. SOmeone told me to use Redhat to start out with. I can get a copy of that with a Dummies Guide to Linux.
I have an older system that I want to put this on. I want to know if I shoud go ahead and use the Mandrake copy or if I shoudl purchase the book for the copy of RedHat. Do any of you know if the Dummies guides are helpful? SHould I go ahead and use Mandrake Instead?

Go ahead and give Mandrake a try. If you don't like it, then try another.

I wouldn't waste my money on a 'Dummies' book. Get a good reference book such as Linux Unleashed, Special Edition Using Linux etc.
