Gentoo terminal problem

ok, I have finally got a working gentoo isntallation going... to find that after compiling KDE when I open a konsole window it would open but remain almost asif it was still loading, the cursor would never appear and would leave an empty box.

I thought not much of this and decided now was a better time then ever to forget about KDE and move on. So I emerged enlightenment.

Now with E everything seems fine, apart for when I try to open an Xterm window nothing happens. All other programs run fine. Now I am thinking it might be something deeper that has gone wrong. or is it just some twisted coincidence?

Any ideas ?

You say you cannot issue the command "xterm" with any results?

yes. Turned out to be that # emerge hotplug
and
# emerge udev
did the trick.

It's all running fine now :)
